Let’s Talk… What To Do If Medicine You Take Is On Back Order!

Some weight loss medications are out of stock. Before this, some people were having trouble getting ADHD medication. What do you do if you depend on medication that you can’t get because of shortages? I’m coming at this from experience because I take a medicine for weight loss that I have been successful with, but it is facing a supply shortage.

First, communicate with your doctor to see what they recommend. Maybe they can put you on something similar to hold you over until the shortage is resolved.

Second, ask about a 3 month supply. When I moved my prescription to mail order, they required me to get a three month supply. This probably makes the problem worse but at least you only have to fight this battle every 3 months.

Third, check into going direct to the manufacturer. Companies like Eli Lilly have opened up Lilly Direct. Have your doctor send your prescription directly to them, and they will fill it and send it to you in the mail. It may still have a shortage but what I’m hearing from my doctor is you will get it quicker than going through a pharmacy because it’s one less entity in the supply chain that the medicine needs to pass through.
