Let’s Talk… The Price of Sporting and Concert Tickets!!

I’ll start this off by saying, it’s not just the Taylor Swift tickets. In 1987, my dad and I went to the final four for college basketball in the SuperDome. This was the year Keith Smart hit the winning shot to win the NCAA title. Tickets were $20 (I have the stub to prove it). It was something I’ll remember forever and I count it as one of the most memorable events from my childhood. In a few weeks March madness starts, which will lead up to the 2024 Final Four. I can only imagine what tickets will go for. I’ve never been to the Super Bowl but I read a few weeks ago that tickets for the most recent game went for $8-10k.

My first concert was in 1989. We went to see Bon Jovi at the Lakefront  arena in New Orleans. Tickets were $15-20. My music taste has changed, and I want to go see Morgan Wallen at Vaught Hemingway stadium on the Ole Miss campus. If I go, I expect to pay $300-400 a ticket for average seats.

As you can see, the price of tickets has risen dramatically. It’s probably due to the market created by advances in technology that make it easy to make money from the resale of tickets. It’s also the supply and demand argument in that because there is a market, the person who pays the most typically wins.

What concert or sporting event do you remember and what did you pay? Any cool sports / concerts coming up that you want to go to and what do you expect to pay?
