Let’s Talk… Traveling to Europe This Summer!!
As many of you know, I just got back from three weeks in southern Spain and Portugal. Here are some things I noticed and you should be aware of when traveling.
- Watch out for fees from currency conversion. I have one credit card that doesn’t have any conversion fees. We used that card but sometimes used our bank debit card which did have a conversion fee. We were constantly nickel and dimed with the card that had that extra fee.
- Spain and Portugal are still a great value compared to the USA. We ate at a Michelin star restaurant in Portugal and it was around $130 for the four of us. In the US, it would have been double or triple that price.
- When visiting smaller cities, keep in mind there is a slower pace that maybe Americans aren’t used to. Places may close for an afternoon rest. Many restaurants don’t open till 7:30-8pm for dinner. My suggestion is to just go with it. You are a guest in their country and sort of live like locals do.
Lastly, the Taylor Swift craze is worldwide so you’ll see quite a few “swifties” in the airport. The American fans have picked up on the trend that the shows in Europe are much cheaper and that you can pay for the trip with the money you save by going to a show in Europe. Keep in mind she sells out huge soccer stadiums for multiple nights, so if you do decide to go I’d get tickets ahead of time.
