Let’s Talk… the Job Market for Recent College Grads!!
2022 is a great year to be graduating from college! The US is experiencing basically full employment, and employers plan to hire 26% more new grads from the class of May 2022 than they did last year*.
Here are some things to consider when advising your recently graduated son or daughter who is looking for a job:
- First, take into account location and cost of living expenses. Don’t jump at a job offer that has a big salary, if most of it will go to taxes and housing in some locations in the USA
- Second, look at the total package. What type of fringe benefits is the company offering (health insurance, housing, meals, etc).
- Third, consider if graduate school is worth the added salary after your son/daughter gets an advanced degree. Realize that the added salary will be over their lifetime and they are at the beginning of their working career.
- Lastly, when interviewing, clean up social media. It’s common nowadays for a prospective employer to check out his/her social media. A company is investing money in you when they hire. They don’t need to see someone who they are about to sink money into doing a keg stand at a frat party.
It is my belief that the economy will continue to grow even if we have road bumps along the way. Make sure that your prospective job candidate is doing what they love with a company who loves them back.
