Many of my friends know Bali is my favorite place I’ve ever been to. People are friendly, kind and gracious. There is a sense of peace and calm everywhere you go. We stayed at a resort in Ubud that was in the rainforest and to say this was the trip of a lifetime is an understatement. Well, guess who just came out with a digital nomad visa that is good for 5 years?.. Bali Indonesia.
Here are a few things to consider when working as a digital nomad in Bali.
First, you’ll owe no taxes on income earned outside of Bali. You will have to pay taxes in the USA but consult a tax professional with regard to how much an individual can earn if they live as an expat. It’s quite advantageous!
Second, Bali is a really good value. We would go to lunch and get a Tuna steak sandwich, salad and drink for about $4. A 90-minute massage at a parlor next to the restaurant cost about $14. In a world of ever increasing inflation, I’m sure Bali is still a good value proposition.
Third, they have a really good internet. It goes without saying this is a must and because of all of the digital nomads the island has upgraded its internet capabilities. In 2017 it was perfect and I had no issues.
Fourth, the only downside is it can be hard to get to. We flew to Hong Kong which was a tiring flight, then continued a few days later to Bali which was a 5 hour flight.
Lastly, you’ll find a flourishing community of like minded people. I know it’s a popular destination for Australians and if I could, I would do it. For now, I’ll live through my friends who may decide to become digital nomads in Bali.
